Dumbfounded

So today while I was driving to meet with a client, I was listening to K-Love in the car. I love K-Love, I hope you listen to it too! If you don't know what it is, click here to find out. They were doing the news report and they always have an "inspirational story" or something good that a church or organization is doing. Today the story came from Washington (the state) and they talked about a church that cancelled their Sunday morning worship service, to go out and serve the community. Bravo to them for doing this. But what really got me was the lady being interviewed said something to the effect of, "yea, the people we served were just dumbfounded, they had no clue why we would want to help them out, especially because we didn't charge them any money."
Now some of you may think what's the big deal? Here's the big deal, as Christians, as believers, followers of Jesus, we should be out there serving our neighbors, people in the community on a regular basis that they shouldn't have to wonder why we are serving them. They should know why! It is a command from God, to serve others.
I have had a hard time with this story all day. I love the story, don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome what they did, I think it's sad that more churches aren't doing the same. Mine included.
So I don't really have a solution, other then to go out and serve. I guess I was just a little bothered that this isn't a normal thing the church is known for.
You can go to the K-Love website to hear the whole story. Again, bravo to this church for serving, I think it's great what they did, but again, why aren't we doing more of it?

I love KLOVE. Only station I listen to besides The River going thru Columbus b/c they don't have a KLOVE station. And you're right-we should be doing that regularly!

We don't have KLOVE here, but our local station is KSBJ that comes out of Houston and I love listening to it!

This is why I'm so excited about One Prayer, because I think that's what their goal is.....to show people what it means to be a Christian who serves others and doesn't expect to gain anything in return. I think alot of churches are so content to keep everything within their own 4 walls.

I certainly cannot speak as though I'm better....I just started going to church at all a few months ago, but I'm very excited to see what I can accomplish on my journey!

You are so right. Sometimes I think it's just easy to stay in our own little comfort zone. That's obviously not what the Lord wants us to do and it's definitely something that I need to work on.

It's funny that you mentioned KLOVE because I was just gonna post about a song I heard the other day on the radio. We do have KLOVE here and I really enjoy listening to it!

I listen to KLOVE a lot too! Love it! AND I love what you wrote on your post. What an inspiring story! I agree with you--this is God's HEART and the world is so desperate to see his love in action. Wouldn't it be incredible if every church did this more often?? I have a feeling a lot of people would be saved...

But I know I can't wait for my church to do it--I really want God to show me how to serve my neighbors and my community more.

Thank you so much for such a great reminder of what this walk with Jesus is all about!
