Making a Difference

"Each of us has something different to contribute,
and no matter how small or insignificant it may seem,
it can be for the benefit of all."
Lauritz Melchior

I know sometimes we all get discouraged about things.  You may be wondering; Am I making a difference, does this matter, who cares what I do?  Well clearly, according to this quote, someone does care.  This past weekend there was a leadership meeting the church was holding, and I did not get invited.  Which selfishly, I was ticked.  But I got over it...sorta

But one of my friends got invited, and she needed someone to watch her kids for her.  So I volunteered so she could go and be a part of this training meeting.  Then they needed someone to bake some egg casseroles and Eric volunteered me.  Which was fine, I enjoy doing that.  But I had a bad attitude about it all.  I was upset that I got stuck home with the kids, baking casseroles, and I was missing out on all the fellowship and fun.

Then God hit me over the head with this thought...it's okay, this is where you are needed.  Sometimes in life you don't get to do all the fun stuff, sometimes you get "stuck" sitting at home with the kids, and other times you get to go out and enjoy yourself.  Right now, the season of life that I am in is helping others out.  Whether I help through baking egg casseroles which by the way I have had more people ask me for the recipes and tell me thank you, or we invite people over so they don't have to cook for a night.  Whatever it may be...I am learning to be more joyful about the opportunities God is giving me.

So chins up to the ones who wonder if they are making a difference.  You are!  You may not know it, but God does, and so does the person you are making a difference to.

That is why I love that verse so much that says. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17. It sure validates the little things we do.

I LOVE this post, Kate! You're so right....sometimes it's those little things that are needed the most, even though you may not get recognition or feel like you were involved with the "big" part of things. I needed to hear this today!

Sometimes we may never know the difference we may make or how much we may matter. But God knows!!! You did do a great thing by watching the kids and baking the egg casseroles. :)
