Psalm 40

Everyday on KLove they have a NLT Living Moment...someone "famous" in the Christian world reads one of their favorite scriptures from the New Living Translation, and then talks about it.  I love hearing other people's perspectives on scripture, what they took from it, how it plays out in their life.  So today an author read a verse from Psalm 40.  I really enjoyed the NLT translation, so I came home and looked it up in The Message.  Here is the verse from The Message...
"Blessed are you who give yourselves over to God,
turn your backs on the world's "sure thing,"
      ignore what the world worships;
   The world's a huge stockpile
      of God-wonders and God-thoughts.
   Nothing and no one
      comes close to you!
I start talking about you, telling what I know,
and quickly run out of words.
   Neither numbers nor words
      account for you." Psalm 40:4-5

I would love to post the whole chapter, but I think you all should go read it yourselves.  I am not sure how familiar you all are with Bible all probably use it everyday!  But if you don't, it's a great resource for all things bible.  You can look scripture up in different versions, you can type in a word and it will show you everywhere in the bible it says it.  It's really cool, so check it out if you haven't!
Back to Psalm 40...I love how the author is telling you to turn your back on the world, it has nothing to offer you.  How many times does temptation creep in your life?  How many times does Satan whisper in your ear?  How many times do you do the wrong thing, even when you know it is the wrong thing to do?  I know I am guilty of all of these things.
But I love how the author is also quick to point out that no one, nothing, nada, nill compares to God.  He is marvelous, woderful, filled with grace and mercy, and loves us even when we turn our backs on him.  Aren't you glad we serve a forgiving God?
This is one of my new favorite songs...I think the words really go along with Psalm 40...

I love KLOVE's NLT Moment segments! I especially love the NLT version. That's the one I have and the one that I can read the easiest. I will have to go check out this passage to see what it sounds like in the NLT version. Thanks so much for sharing this verse and the song!

I love the David Crowder Band's version of the song. I turn it up when it comes on. I hear the NLT Living Moment often on KLOVE. The only 'sure thing' in this world is God!!

I love this post, Kate. I've said this many times, but I truly think some of my family thinks I've gone crazy with my obsession of Jesus and how I just can't get enough, but this is the kind of life that everyone should experience. There's nothing better!!! I did not know about Bible Gateway, so thank you for that! I will head over there right now! That's a great song too!

I love the Book of Psalms. Such wisdom and encouragement is there, and so many things we can all relate to.

And Kate, I started planning his birthday last night, a few months in advance but we're so busy it may just take me that long! It's funny you mentioned that!
