2 Years in the Cheese State

First off, welcome new friends popping over from Lynnette's "Getting to Know You."  I love having new friends and visitors!

Now onto living 2 years in Wisconsin...

On this day, 2 years ago Eric, Molly, Billy (the cat), and I arrived in Milwaukee.  We left Ohio at 2 in the morning, so we we could meet the moving truck with all of our stuff at our apartment.  Eric drove with the cat in one car, and 8 week old Molly and I drove in the second car.  The night before we left was very emotional for us.  We had to drop off the keys to our house, our very first house that we bought with all our pennies saved, made our own by fixing everything up, and loving it with every bone in our body.  A place we ministered out of, and had people live with us, yea, that house, we had to hand the keys over to the new owners.  I know it is just a house, you can't take it with you, but to us, it meant a lot more.  One chapter was ending and the next was just beginning.  We arrived early in Milwaukee, and got the keys to our new apartment.  That was a whole nother adjustment, living in a house, to now an apartment.  But it was a good little place for us, that I actually miss.

We only knew the staff and their families at The Ridge, so we felt pretty lonely at first.  So not only were we new in town, we also had a new baby to care for.  The months leading up to Molly's birth, and the months after her birth were very stressful for us.  We knew we had to move, but we weren't sure where.  Then God opened this huge opportunity for us in Milwaukee, and we knew we had to go.  We left the closest family we have 6 hours back in Ohio and moved here.  It was the best move we ever made, and only God can take the glory for it.

Life changed rather quickly for us, our marriage has changed, our parenting ways have changed, only one thing has stayed the same, God's faithfulness to us.  One of the biggest lessons I have learned first hand coming here is that when you remian faithful to God, he will remain faithful to you.  Although I couldn't wait to leave Cincinanti and that ministry behind us, I was scared to venture into the unknown.  Cincinnati was not a good fit for us anymore, but it was comfortable, and I knew what my life was like there.  I didn't have to re-define myself, make a new life, and have a new way of doing things.  Here, that's a whole new ball game I am learning to play.  When we were told we had to raise part of our salary for the first 2 years to come here, I thought we would never be able to do it.  I doubted God's plan, but tried to remain faithful to what he called us to do.  We had our salary raised in 2-3 weeks, and then some.  Time and time again, 2 years ago to 2 days ago, I am still learning and seeing, if you are faithful to him, he is always faithful in return.

So after 2 years here in the Cheese State, I am still learning and discovering so many different things about myself, my husband, our marriage, our daughter, friends, and most importantly my relationship with God.  I have never felt so close to God, and so intimate with him.  I feel so humbled and blessed to be a part of The Ridge.  I still get excited every week to go to church and see what God is going to do.  I feel like a little kid before Christmas every Saturday night, because I can't believe that I actually get to go and be a part of something so awesome, and so life changing.

We don't plan on leaving this area any time soon.  They will actually have to kick me out before I leave.  We are open to God's calling and his plans for our lives.  85% of Milwaukee is unchurched, it's a huge mission field.  There is still a lot of work to be done here, and I am so over-joyed that I get to be a part of it.  Remember, when you are faithful, God will be faithful in return.  Happy 2 years!

Amen Kate! I never thought in a million years that I would get excited about church, but I am the same way. I get excited to go every Sunday to see what I'm going to learn or how God will speak to me. Life is so amazing when you trust in God!

I think it is so awesome that you and your husband are living your lives on a mission for God! You have been such a role model for me and a wonderful friend too!!

Hey Kate...so I know I have a lot of catching up on your blog. Sorry I haven't been to visit in a few days!

Congrats on two years in Milwaukee. That is awesome that you guys have surrendered your life to God's plan and have let him direct your path. I pray that you guys have many more good years there. That is just amazing to me that the percentage of unchurch is so high where you live! What a great place to share to love of God!

Hi Kate! I'm visiting from Lynette's blog as well! I so know how you feel-my husband (a worship pastor) and I made the move from Virginia to Texas a year ago, and there have definitely been some hard times so far. But we are confident that this is where God needs us to be right now! Good luck in your ministry and God Bless!

Hi, my name is Danielle and I am a Mommy of two. I saw your blog featured on Lynnette's blog and found it so funny when I read this post. We live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin too. We have actually lived here for about 5 years but just recently bought our first home, its kind of on the border of West Allis and Greenfield. It is amazing what a small world it is. If ever you need anything I would be more then happy to help. We know the area pretty well.

I can't believe you've been there 2 years already. I miss you!! I see my mom is attempting to set up a rendezvous? lol That would be nice!! Let's wait until the weather gets a little warmer. I don't know about you but when it's cold outside I like to stay holed up in my warm house. :)

I know you guys will do great things at The Ridge and in the CHEESE STATE. :) I wonder, do they carry a lot of different cheeses in the stores?
