Fall DIY

So I am not crafty, I like to think I am, but I am really not.  I have this amazing ability to come up with some ideas, buy the supplies, and then it usually ends there.  Ask Eric, every time I come up with an idea, he rolls his eyes, and asks how much it is going to cost.  He has really learned not to say a whole lot and let me "fail" on my own.  I get this from my mom.  Trust me, she will fully admit to it, it is genetic or something.

So the other day when I was at Goodwill, I found this cute tin bucket looking thing.  We are very technical around here.  I walked by it like 10 times and did not finally put it in my cart until I passed it one more time on my way to the check out.  I thought I could make something crafty with it.  It was only $1.99, so even if I failed miserably, we were not out too much.  So here is what I did...

$1.99 at Goodwill

$1.00 at the Dollar Store

$5.00 total (5 bunches/$1/piece)

Not bad for $7.99 total

Elwood likes it!

The good and bad about this project is with my type A personality, I have re-arranged, and arranged it like 10 times since taking the picture.  I keep bending, fluffing, and bending the flowers again and again.  If I had more time I would have gotten different floral arrangement Styrofoam, but with a cranky kid, the Dollar Store was my one and only stop today.

So there is my DIY Fall decor piece :)

PS. Anyone that tries to buy those green squares that hold the flowers....DO NOT buy them at the craft store, they are super expensive there.

Well by super expensive, I mean more than a dollar.

I love it Kate! And the "Elwood likes it" caption made me LOL! I think it looks really awesome! I am just like you though. I promise you I would have arranged and rearranged it a million times too. Thus, the reason I have no flower arrangements in my house. :D Oh, and another thing, I LOVE buying craft supplies. I love it way more than actually making anything with them. Haha!

Cute bucket! I have no idea where to get this, but maybe Etsy...they make these large vinyl letters to stick on anything...any color. Your last initial in a neutral color would be cute on there! I have got to find our Goodwill store...more bloggers get the greatest stuff!

Nice work! Those green squares are called OASIS and they work great for silk flowers (did my time in a floral shop in high school). You can even find the stiffer styrofoam (cheaper I believe) and those work good for silk flowers too. That light weight green oasis you bought is actually made to be soaked in water and hold REAL flowers (that's why you'll find it more expensive).

Doesn't it feel great to find a good deal and manipulate your bought items into your own creation?!? Crafty or not - everyone has to start somewhere. You will keep your eyes open now for more opportunities to save and create! Have fun with it, I love doing it!

Good job! I found your site through my friend Amanda - My Heart's Desire :) I just posted about my recent DIY adventure, type A as well - and yes I arrange/re-arrange, etc... all the time to get it "perfect" and rarely it ever is in my mind. :)
